Ad-Hoc Meeting on Policing in Roma Community


The Expert Meeting on Policing in Multicultural Communities with a special focus on Roma minority, convened under the auspices of the Austrian Chairmanship-in-Office and with support from the Hungarian Police and the PCC SEE Secretariat, took place from 12-13 December 2013 in Budapest, Hungary. In attendance were the national police experts dealing with the topic and the observer from the OSCE ODIHR.

The delegates appreciated the organisation of the meeting on this important topic and presented some basic information related to Roma population in their respective countries. They discussed in more detail the state-of-play in the area or multicultural policing and exchanged information and experience on the various police approaches and measures dealing with the minorities’ integration as well as other available practices. The delegates in continuation stressed the importance of an international approach in tackling this sensitive issue and also supported the initiative presented by the PCC SEE Secretariat to start dealing with the issue within the PCC SEE framework.
