Chisinau, Moldova - The 6th Meeting of the Thematic Working Group on Exchange of Information regarding Forged and Fake Travel Documents within PCC SEE, organized under the auspices of the Moldovan Chairmanship in Office with support from the PCC SEE Secretariat, took place on 6-8 April 2016 in Chisinau, Moldova. Experts with operational experience as well as a background in forensics from the PCC SEE Contracting Parties exchanged presentations on new forms and trends in document forgery and relevant forensic approaches. In light of the increased mixed migration flows affecting the PCC SEE Contracting Parties, the working group members focused their presentations and discussions on detected document fraud connected to this phenomenon. They also discussed some common challenges encountered in their daily work and agreed on the next steps to be taken towards enhanced cooperation. The working group members continued with the good practice of exchanging national specimens and security feature descriptions of travel documents issued in their countries, which are essential for determining whether a document is genuine. The annual meetings of this working group, together with the regular dissemination of alerts on forged and fake travel documents in the region, are considered to contribute to a swifter operational response at border crossings in the countries’ common effort to stem criminal activity.
