5th Meeting of the Thematic Working Group on the Practical and Technical Implementation of the PCC Prüm Agreement – Automated Exchange of DNA Data
Ljubljana, 25–26 November 2025 – The fifth meeting of the DNA subgroup, held on 25 and 26 November 2025 under the auspices of the PCC SEE Chairmanship-in-Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, brought together key DNA experts from the forensic departments and units of the PCC SEE Contracting Parties.
The meeting continued to serve as an important platform for the exchange of experiences, best practices, and lessons learned, while further strengthening the dynamic network of forensic experts within the PCC SEE community.
The programme of the meeting closely followed the thematic and technical priorities essential for the operationalisation of automated DNA data exchange under the PCC Prüm Agreement. Over two days, participants engaged in structured sessions covering legal and technical developments, including discussions on the practical implementation of CODIS-based exchange. The agenda also included dedicated sessions on success stories and operational case examples, presentations on database standards, structures, and governance models, as well as detailed exchanges on workflows, matching rules, and follow-up communication after confirmed hits.
In addition, the group examined emerging technologies, including the potential role of artificial intelligence in forensic interpretation and data exchange, and jointly reflected on shared challenges, capacity-building needs, and future priorities. This comprehensive and highly interactive format ensured not only the continuation of the subgroup’s work but also tangible progress in harmonising practices and strengthening regional cooperation in the field of forensic DNA exchange.
