Regional Ministerial Conference in Belgrade


The Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia organized the Ministerial Conference “Strengthening regional and trans-national cooperation as a pre-condition for the successful fight against organized crime in Southeastern Europe”, that took place in Belgrade, form 4-5 October 2010, at the Palace “Serbia”.

The conference was attended by the Ministers of the Interior, Ministers of Justice and Prosecutors of the Western Balkan states, as well as the representatives of the European Union Member States and members of the European Commission. Also, the representatives of other states as well as the representatives of the international organizations and regional initiatives who can contribute to the successful fight against organized crime in the region took part in the Conference.

The Conference was opened by Mr Boris Tadic, Serbian President, Mr Ivica Dacic, Interior Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister, Ms Snezana Malovic, Justice Minister, Mr Wincent Degert, Head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, and Mr Dimitrios Kypreosthe, Head of the OSCE Mission in Serbia. 

Topics discussed at the conference explored the strengthening of cooperation in the region to effectively fight against organised crime, including restrictions of the financial resources acquired through criminal activities, as well as trafficking in human beings and illegal migration, better coordination and cooperation between regional public prosecutors, interior and justice ministries, and all other relevant bodies.

Mr Anton Travner, Head of PCC SEE Secreatariat, during the session presented the project on the Joint Investigation Teams and its impact in the field of combating organised and cross-border crime in the SEE region.
