Screening of the Moldovan Police-Related Legislation
From 21 till 24 September 2010 national legal experts from the Contracting Parties to the Convention met in Chisinau in Moldova to screen the Moldovan police-related legislation acts. Upon request by the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs it was agreed to convene a three day meeting at which experts in various fields foreseen by the Convention as well as lawyers shall screen the Moldovan police-related legislation. The Moldovan MoIA received the screening list, prepared by the Secretariat of the Convention, prior to the meeting.
Thirteen to fifteen representatives of the Moldovan MoIA were present throughout the screening, all from different departments. The participants went through the screening list article by article, adding legal bases, comments, gaps and recommendations.
Overall, this meeting was very appreciated by the Moldovan MoIA. It served as an excellent opportunity for the departments dealing with certain issues to receive an overview of the current state of play. Many recommendations were given and the outcomes of the meeting will be helpful for the drafting of the new Moldovan Law on Police.
