Western Balkan Risk Analysis Conference


FRONTEX in cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities organised the Western Balkan Risk Analysis Conference which took place in Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 11-12 May 2011.

In November 2010 the 1st Western Balkan Risk Analysis Conference was organized by FRONTEX within the framework of Western Balkan Risk Analysis Network where the first Western Balkan Annual Risk Analysis, covering the period of 2009, was presented together with regional projects regarding illegal migration, cross-border crime and border management projects. As a follow up of the conference and acknowledging the important work of different EU, international and non-governmental organizations in the field of border management in the region, Frontex and the Western Balkan Risk Analysis Network organized the 2nd conference with aim to share the key results from the joint annual analysis, covering the period of 2010.

The general objective of the conference was to share and accumulate experiences and knowledge in the field of border security and border management in the region and consisted of two parts

  • strategic with presentation of the WB Annual Risk Analysis 2011 and some of the outstanding issues and
  • operational with situation on the Greek-Turkish border and operational activities influencing regional illegal migration in the Western Balkan countries.
