EU Standing Committee for the Coordination of Operational Cooperation in the area of Internal Security (COSI) meeting


On 8th December 2011, Mr. Anton Travner, Head of the PCC SEE Secretariat, participated in the session of the EU Standing Committee for the Coordination of Operational Cooperation in the area of Internal Security (COSI) at the Council in Brussels. The COSI Committee is a high-level body of the Council where all 27 EU Member States and relevant JHA agencies, such as Europol, Frontex, Eurojust, Commission, EMCDDA, GSC, are represented.

Mr. Travner presented the advantages of the PCC SEE approach to regional security and the progress in its implementation in view of the EU efforts to achieve a complementary approach to security in the neighbouring Southeast European region. The EU Member States and the European Commission warmly welcomed the PCC SEE contribution to improving regional cooperation. The Commission urged all Member States to accede to the Convention which, in their opinion, represents an efficient legal basis for cooperation.

The Commission announced that it would also look into funding possibilities.

Hungary announced its imminent accession to the Convention which is to take place in January 2012.

On 9th December, Mr. Travner participated in a meeting with Mrs. Maria Asenius, Head of Cabinet of EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, where future options for cooperation were discussed.
