Capacity Building Workshop on Joint Investigation Teams
Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia - The Capacity Building Workshop on Joint Investigations Teams (JITs), organized under the auspices of the Bosnia and Herzegovina PCC SEE Chairmanship in Office and in cooperation with CEPOL, took place between 26 and 28 May 2014 in Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia. The 2-day workshop combined both a theoretical and practical approach by addressing important elements related to the establishment of JITs and increasing the participants’ knowledge and skills through various exercises, while also building mutual trust between prosecutors and practitioners from the PCC SEE region. The participants received relevant and extensive information on the concept of JITs, legal and operational aspects, role of EUROJUST and EUROPOL, data protection standards, and the available national and EU support for establishing JITs. The practical part was composed of several exercises where the participants were divided into groups and, based on scenario cases, were tasked to draft the JIT agreement, integrate a non-EU country in the agreement, simulate the coordination meeting with EUROJUST and prepare a SWOT analysis including proposals how to overcome common challenges in setting up a JIT.
